Survey Services is a Chartered Building Consultancy with many years experience of property surveys. We are able to undertake Asbestos Management and Refurbishment surveys on domestic and commercial properties and specialise in targeted surveys for light refurbishment tasks.
Asbestos Surveys
The key to managing asbestos is to identify the location, type, condition and extent of any asbestos containing materials (ACMs). This is achieved by conducting an asbestos survey that must be undertaken in accordance with HSE guidance note HSG 264.
The survey must be and should be of one of two types:
Management survey
This standard survey is undertaken to locate as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building, which might be damaged or disturbed during normal occupancy, including foreseeable maintenance and installation, and to assess their present condition. The findings of the management survey form the basis of the property’s asbestos register.
Refurbishment and demolition Survey
This survey is required before any refurbishment or demolition work can be carried out. The survey is used to locate and describe, as far as reasonably practicable, all ACMs in the area where the refurbishment work will take place or in the whole building if demolition is planned.
The survey is fully intrusive and involves destructive inspection, if necessary, to gain access to areas that may be difficult to reach. A refurbishment and demolition survey may also be required before intrusive maintenance and repair work can be carried out or before plant removal and dismantling.
Selection of the type of survey most appropriate is made at the initial planning stage and is dependent upon your specific requirements and the particular circumstances of the property concerned.
In-Project Intrusive Surveys
As most demolition and refurbishment works are time critical, we like to offer ‘live’ surveying and removal works for properties that could not be vacated in time for a refurbishment and demolition survey.
Working collaboratively alongside your refurbishment or demolition teams, our consultants survey only the specific areas where works are planned to be undertaken and produce a survey report together with marked-up plans identifying the scope and specification of any items for removal, plus removing items that are discovered to enable the project to progress swiftly.
Restricting the areas surveyed to those specifically affected by the works means that costs and timescales can be kept to a minimum and ensures that the project can completed safely and as efficiently as possible without unnecessary delay to completion or risk of discovering any untimely surprises.
Asbestos Removal and Remediation
Survey Services are cost effective small scale removal and disposal specialists for both commercial and domestic customers, including encapsulation and management works, flytip collections and collection and disposal of dialysis and other offensive wastes, such as farm chemicals.
Survey Services are specialists at providing sensible solutions to asbestos problems – removal works are always the last recommendation. From a small domestic garage roof to ongoing refurbishment projects for major clients we can work with other trades to minimise disruption and keep costs down. We can also fit new roofing rainwater materials to replace the old asbestos ones if necessary!
